Therapist Addictions


The Therapist is a professional clinical position in a human services agency providing alcohol, drug abuse, mental health or juvenile justice services.  Therapists provide appropriate assessment, therapy and documentation.

Pre-requisite Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other human services field and one year of professional clinical work experience.

SupervisionThis position does not provide supervision to others, and reports to the Program Director.

 Scope of Responsibilities:

Assess when admitting new clients, provide clinical services, maintain and prepare reports and clinical charts, professionally communicates and provides consultations to parents, agencies and organizations as needed.

 

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Adheres to regulatory bodies and licensing rules, guidelines and established protocols to carry out all duties required by contract, licensure, accreditation, and certification relative to agency, program, service assignment and agency designated model for treating persons with co-occurring mental and substance disorders.

  • Assesses clients for admission into treatment services and admits new clients, insuring proper documentation and that rules/requirements of program are explained
  • Provides clinical services including, but not limited to individual, group and family therapy, assessments, develop, monitor and update treatment plan, and discharge planning, gives consultation to parents, and maintains professional communication with referral sources.
  • Observes clients for behavioral changes and progress in treatment and engages clients to talk about their mental illness and substance abuse, communicates empathically with clients regarding addiction, mental illness, medications and recovery, communicates with clients to promote understanding of their illness/illnesses and hope for recovery.
  • Conducts face to face interviews with clients to develop individual behavioral health or treatment plans and reviews individual behavioral health treatment plan prior to physician review and authorization.
  • Responsible for maintaining documentation, clinical chart of assigned clients and management of records.
  • Participates in peer review and provides direction and professional development as appropriate.
  • Performs related work as required /assigned.

 PROGRAM SPECIFIC: The program includes the following duties and responsibilities for this position:

  • (If assigned to a BHOS Program, Performs BHOS related services in compliance with Medicaid rules and the Community Mental Health Services Coverage and Limitations Handbook)
  • Maintains and prepares accurate clinical reports and other documentation as required or assigned
  • Completes bio/psycho-social assessment
  • Adheres to Program Duties and Responsibilities checklist

 Specialized Duties/ Tasks

  • Must possess valid Florida Drivers' License, industry accepted driving history and maintain vehicle insurance required by State of Florida
  • Attends court hearings and/or meetings related to position as assigned
  • Enter appropriate data in KIS weekly for billing Residential clients and submit with census
  • Serves as the qualified professional to review and countersign clinical documentation
  • Serves as resource in clinical function for professional direction
  • Completes case staffing and treatment team forms
  • Initiates and completes discharge forms in KIS
  • Writes letter to petitioner on ex-parte clients from recommendations
  • Attends monthly team meetings and monthly BHT meetings
  • Attends monthly team meetings and monthly clinician meetings
  • Serves as a member on the agency's QI committee
  • Serves as member on other agency committees
